Carolyn Vincent

Carolyn Vincent works for the Center for Public Leadership as the program manager for the Black Family Fellowship, a leadership development fellowship for US veterans and active duty military. Traveling as a young person, Carolyn realized how much she grew during challenging, immersive learning experiences. This led to a passion for experiential teaching and mentoring others as they explore and develop as leaders. Prior to working at the Harvard Kennedy School of Government, Carolyn worked in the educational maritime industry, focusing on leadership development as well as environmental and social justice. Carolyn served as a Captain and educator for Sea/master and Sea Education Association on their college study-abroad programs, which take place on traditionally-rigged sailing vessels. After leading students and crew in visits to 20+ countries on 4 continents, she went to the Harvard Graduate School of Education to complete a M.Ed. in Education Leadership, Organizations, and Entrepreneurship and Higher Education. Carolyn also holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Brown University and her 200ton US Coast Guard Masters License. In her free time, Carolyn loves hiking, exploring on her bicycle, and getting out on the water any way she can. She is always delighted to talk to others about sailing, scuba diving, non-traditional careers, gap-years, traveling in your teens and 20s, education, and how to figure out what you want to do next.
